SWC Scores Its Fourth Consecutive Crain’s Chicago Business Best Places to Work Award
One of the first things people see when they sit down to interview at SWC are our Crain’s Best Places to Work awards. That’s very purposeful. We’re proud of these awards and we want to instill upon candidates the premium that we place on employee happiness and fulfillment.
If you’re happy and challenged each and every day, then you’re going to deliver your best work, both to the customer and to the team. So if there is one overarching goal here at SWC, one goal to rule them all, it’s just that — create a fun environment that fosters professional growth and happiness through challenging, diverse and rewarding work.
This is not a management goal, and this is not a HR goal. This is a team goal, and every employee is encouraged to contribute ideas that make SWC a fun and fulfilling place to work. We’re always trying out new ideas — from a company-wide Pi Day celebration on March 14 (3.14) with a pie-eating contest, pi reciting contest, and plenty of pizza pie, to the SWC Olympics, a two-week company-wide competition with ping pong battles, Wii tournaments, dodgeball, talent contests and myriad other events.
We work hard to find talented, passionate professionals. Experience is important to us. But we are also key on passion — on a candidate’s desire and eagerness to work with a team to solve an organization’s technology problems. And when we do hire someone, we want to retain that talented individual, cultivate professional development and be a mentor for his or her career goals.
Our employees want to advance in their career. They are entrepreneurial-minded individuals who are eager to learn new skills and certifications, and we reward them for that. We reward performance with monthly incentives for reaching or exceeding work utilization goals, and we also reward them for receiving certifications, while covering any associated costs.
The thing we like most about being named by Crain as a Best Place to Work is the process by which they come to select businesses — the focus of which is an employee satisfaction survey by a third-party firm. It’s not just me up here saying “We’re the best,” it’s the employees saying “We’re the best, and here’s why.”
What makes SWC a best place to work? The answer is different for every individual, and that’s one of the reasons why we offer so many different benefits and perks.
It’s an honor to be recognized by Crain for the fourth consecutive year—an honor that I share with everyone at SWC.
