Employee Onboarding at SWC

June 29, 2016   //   Careers, ,

We live by the motto – happy employees make happy clients. This core value has not only enabled us to provide the best services to our clients, but it has also earned us several ‘Best Places to Work’ recognitions, such as Crain’s Best Places to Work, 101 Best and Brightest Places to Work, and Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces. We’re proud to have a tenured team of professionals, many with more than 10, 15 and 20 years with the company. We know that in order to attract and retain loyal employees, we need to start nurturing and developing every team member from day one.

From Engineers to Developers to Interns, SWC ensures every employee, regardless of level or area of expertise, receives a positive onboarding experience that sets the tone for what life will be like working here.

Onboarding Process for New Employees

employee onboarding

SWC makes sure our new employees feel prepared, excited and, most importantly, welcomed. We begin the onboarding process with a brief orientation, followed by lunch with the team. We hand out SWC swag bags and always make the rounds of office introductions. President of the company, Bob Knott, also sets aside time for a one-on-one conversation with each new employee to discuss their personal interests and goals. We do this so that employees know they are recognized, valued and appreciated from the moment they step through our doors.

Our onboarding process is also focused on providing new hires with the training they need to succeed in their careers. New hires are invited to attend lunch and learns that provide insight into what the company is trying to accomplish as a whole. This transparency and knowledge-transfer gives employees the tools they need to launch their careers within the company and begin making an impact right away.

The onboarding process runs so smoothly. All the questions that I had were answered. What I valued most was being able to have everything readily available to me. As a new employee, I had everything I needed to succeed.

Initial training was the highlight of my onboarding experience. Comparing it to past jobs, SWC exceeded all my expectations.

– Mike Murphy, Managed Services, NOC Team

The onboarding here is impressive. I started as an intern and was treated like everyone else. I received documentation on how to get up to speed and there were training videos at my fingertips. My favorite part of the onboarding process was when I met with my team and higher level executives.

New Hires Describe Our Company Culture

company culture

SWC is all about empowering and motivating our teams. We do this by highlighting employee members of the month, as well as by providing teams and individuals with incentives such as paid training programs, team outings and much more. With great incentives and recognitions, work-life balance, and family-friendly activities, SWC employees pick up on our work hard/play hard atmosphere right away.

The culture here is engaging to say the least. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t learn something new.

– Tom Salutric, Managed Services, Services Desk Team

If there is something you aren’t familiar with, it’s almost guaranteed that someone at SWC is actively working on it and can teach you about it. Because of this, you can learn a lot in a short amount of time

– Mike Murphy, Managed Services, NOC Team

I use family to describe the culture at SWC. Day one, my co-workers at SWC have treated me like family. The talent that surrounds me motivates me to succeed. It’s truly a rewarding environment to be a part of.

New Hires Make an Impact

career mentorship

Recent workplace studies have shown that employees want to not only have a job that pays, but they also want to be able to make an impact within their company. Companies with award-winning cultures go beyond Friday afternoon happy hours and free snacks, they invest in training and development programs that encourage employees to put their talents to use.

SWC assigns a career advocates to all of our employees. We do this to ensure each person is getting exposure to other areas of the company and is able to learn from their peers. Our leadership team enjoys sharing their experiences and knowledge with the rest of the team, which has helped to create a team-oriented environment where everyone is growing and learning every day. We want all of our new hires to feel challenge and excited about their jobs.

With training and the support of my team, I was able to take on more tasks to grow within SWC. I am honored to be SWC’s Point of contact for the Service Desk Team.

– Tom Salutric, Managed Services, Service Desk Team

I started in early October and, in that time, it seems like I have accomplished so much more than I would have expected. This has led to a feeling of accomplishment each day.

– Mike Murphy, Managed Services, NOC Team

I’m excited to come to work daily just to interact and collaborate with my co-workers. Any idea you have, they will support you and provide assistance to make sure you achieve your goals. Your goals become their goal.
