IT consultants SWC has designed and deployed a new Cisco network and telephony solution for the YMCA national headquarters in Chicago and Washington, D.C. that brings increased productivity and an enhanced working environment to YMCA employees.

The YMCA’s national offices provide oversight for nearly 2,700 branches of the YMCA around the country. The YMCA came to us looking to upgrade its telephony system and improve the efficiency of communications at the headquarters locations. After conducting a requirements analysis, we completed a comprehensive Cisco network infrastructure design and implementation to support a new VoIP system. The robust network, complete with advanced switching and routing capabilities, provides the foundation for the Cisco CallManager telephony solution.

Microsoft Office Communicator interfaces with the telephony system on the back end and Microsoft Office Communications Server serves as the desktop interface, enabling enterprise chat, enterprise voice, presence, conferencing and file transfer capabilities, among others.

The project coincided with the YMCA’s relocation to new office space.

The SWC IT consulting team was able to analyze the flow of communications throughout the YMCA headquarters, understand how information is shared among departments and teams, and calculate future needs for the organization. In response, we were able to design a solution blending products and services from Cisco and Microsoft that provides the YMCA with the best possible user experience.

The first phase of the project, completed in the summer of 2010, provides instant messaging, presence indicator and chat capabilities. The second phase to follow will enable additional applications including Microsoft Live Meeting web conferencing.

SWC recently became part of the Cisco Authorized Business Edition Reseller program, and we’re embarking on some innovative projects that leverage Cisco and Microsoft technologies. This work with the YMCA is a notable example of our team’s networking and telephony capabilities.
