Skype for Business Client Release Date Announced
As you know, we’re all eagerly anticipating the Skype for Business server release on May 1st. But in other exciting news, we now have a confirmed release date for the client! On April 14th, an update to Office 2013, Office 365 ProPlus and Office 365 Business Premium will be available from Microsoft. This means that the first Skype for Business client is not a separate install, but rather a patch delivered to the existing Lync 2013 client.
If you are using Microsoft Lync on-premises, your users will experience no visible changes when the client is patched. However for Lync Online, now Skype for Business Online, the users’ experience will default to the new Skype look and feel. Of course, if you’re running your server on-premises or online you have full control over what your users will see.
For more information on this exciting update and to learn how you can control which user interface is presented to your users, please head on over to the Microsoft Office blog.
If you need help planning your upgrade strategy to Skype for Business or Microsoft Office 365 please reach out to SWC or come to one of our upcoming Chicagoland IT events to learn more.
